The decision on whether or not to close a school/nursery is made by the individual head teacher and governing body of that school/nursery. Any queries should, therefore, be directed to the individual school/nursery.
Please note: If your school/nursery does not appear on the list below this is due to the school/nursery not providing any publishing information/updates regarding their individual school/nursery direct to the Council website, or there are no closures.
Any relevant information regarding impact on Council services – such as roads and or schools/nursery - will be issued to the media and displayed prominently on the front page of this website.

PARTIAL CLOSURE: The academy will be closed to pupils in Y7-9 on Thursday 9th July and Friday 10th July 2026. This is not a decision taken lightly, however continued high and increasing temperatures and humidity in much of the school building are now compromising our ability to ensure the safety and welfare of our community. Pupils in Y10 and Y12 should attend as normal, they can be accommodated in the cooler classrooms. Pupils should continue to wear relaxed uniform or PE kit and bring their water bottles.
Teaching and Support staff will be in the building. Teachers will be notifying pupils of learning activities via Satchel One. They will sign post where the learning materials for the lessons are to be found and they will also post a link to Microsoft Teams. This will allow pupils to interact with their teacher in real time during the lesson, in case they are stuck.
We understand that online working at such short notice might mean that some pupils are unable to access their learning at the allocated time. We also know that some pupils have been struggling to concentrate and function due to the hot and humid conditions. Teachers are aware of this and will be sympathetic.
Given the challenging temperatures and humidity, we would strongly advise against sending your child/ren into school, however we would be able to have a limited number of pupils in the building. Please contact your child’s Head of Year by 7:30pm (Wednesday) if you need to send your child into school.
The restaurant will be operational at break times and lunch times.
>All offsite trips and visits will go ahead as planned: Murray Edwards College, Cambridge and the Eisteddfod in Llangollen.
>The End of Term Concert on Thursday July 9th will go ahead as planned (the venue is air conditioned).
>The Y11 Prom will go ahead as planned – the off site venue is air conditioned
>Saturday Music College will run as normal.
Holy Trinity Academy (VA) - Will be closed from 10/07/2026 through to 10/07/2026 due to Bad weather
Following careful consideration of the weather forecast and in the interests of the health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff, Holy Trinity Academy will be closed to students on Friday 10 July due to the extreme temperatures expected.
Year 6 transition students currently attending Holy Trinity Academy as part of their Year 6 transition programme should not attend the academy on Friday. They will return to their primary schools and should follow any arrangements communicated by their primary school.
Students in Years 7–9 should work from home and follow their normal school timetable. Teaching staff will set work via Satchel One or Microsoft Teams, and students are expected to engage fully with the work provided throughout the day.
